This is my Story
What inspired Avispa:
The Avispa logo is inspired by 2 fears that I had to overcome:
Bees: When I was 7 years old, I went on my first vacation to Nicaragua. While climbing to the top of a volcano called Masaya I was stung in the neck by African bees, which led to a swarm of bees chasing after me as I made my way down the volcano. The experience traumatized me so much, I couldn’t see a fly for weeks without flinching at the thought that it was a bee. It took me a few years to get used to seeing bees wherever I went, but I’ve learned to respect them and learned so much more about their importance in our ecosystem.
Riding a bicycle: I was embarrassed to be quite possibly one of the few people who at the age of 27 didn’t know how to ride a bike. With only 1 attempt at learning at the age of about 5, and 2 further attempts at about 11 and 13, I still did not know how to ride a bike. The older I got the more embarrassed and frustrated I was thinking I had never learned. It wasn’t until the age of 27 that I gave it a 4th attempt at a public park. I was nervous knowing that there would be other people there watching my girlfriend (now wife) teaching me how to ride. It wasn’t until she corrected my one flaw while riding that it finally clicked, and from there I never looked back.
Overcoming my fears led me to not only enjoy these new small things in life, but it also drove me to bring my vision to the table. As a new cyclist in the market at a late age, I struggled to find a brand that had it all. I shopped around and found generic products that seemed to always lack something. Hence why the first product I ever launched were cycling shorts, which I feel bring in that all-in-one factor: Comfort, Convenience, Unique. I wanted to make shorts that I felt would be a one-stop shop. Something no one else had, and for me to see the positive views from users speaks for itself.
From this first product idea, I spiraled on
finding more ways to bring more concepts and designs to life. Finding the IT factor that people need in their purchase and knowing that their hard-earned money is proving it’s worth.

The Bee Conservancy
Bees pollinate one-third of the food we eat. A 2019 survey from the Bee Informed Partnership states that nearly 40% of U.S. beekeepers lost their colonies during the previous year. Compared to 1947, the U.S. honeybee population has declined 60%
